Good to know, thanks. I knew what the ball guards were for, but I never understood how someone could really pinch a finger in them, and that's because I've only looked at them with the gate closed.

Aside from kids jumping in to swim, I suppose it's extremely possible for someone sitting down and simply climbing off onto a beach and using the rail for assistance.

For $10 for a 3 pack of the better design I think it's a bargain to reduce even a tiny risk. And as a bonus they'll give a cleaner look than the ball things.
