Only if you have more money than sense would you use a product that due to thickness would add a lot of weight to a boat. Most people use nothing thicker than 1/16" alum with great results, .09" thick FRB, or 1/8" thick HDPE..... Why weight down without reason?[/quote]

HAHA
It was a different option but its not like your going to sink the boat by adding starboard. It does come in 1/8 but the alum is cheaper and if it works, your right.

I would hazard to guess that the aluminum is strongest in strength to weight ratio unless you were going to get into expensive exotics like titanium or carbon fiber.
From all I've read, it is not the aluminum itself that fails, but the mount points. Perhaps one should think on improving mounting of underskin. Rather than just rivets or self tappers, how about an aluminum strip wherever the sheet goes over a crossmember. Then rivet through the whole sandwich. I think that would take a tremendous beating without failing, although you would get a lot of dents as souvenirs.

I have seen videos of those carp mostly out of country but I didn't think they were that bad in the states.
Hats off to you guys that have to deal with that.

In the air force all our planes were skinned in aluminum and held up fine to hail and birds at 400mph. However, the windshield did not fair so well and i think some of the were made out of lexan. You should be fine with aluminum as long as you secure it good.

I think that carp would dent your fencing when hit.
