Losing a good dog is hard.

One that's been your "First Mate" just makes it harder.

I figure though, that all of us who've lost pets, we're better for having them in our lives.

And their lives were better for being in ours.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Even if you think you are prepared it never works. We lost two shepherds over the years and have Aspen & Mika now. Both were adopted from the Shepherd Rescue organization.
Hope you can take another 4-legged friend in to your heart soon.

Sorry for your loss, he was a beautiful shepherd, I had a gorgeous black and silver shepherd years ago, till a farmer down the road shot her for killing his chickens. The bastard....

RIP Rocky - so sorry for your loss. These aren't just pets, they are little kids in fur suits.

Our Isaac loves to go on the boat, but he hates water (go figure for a Lab). He's also blind in 1 eye so when he's on the boat, he's sporting his Doggles and a life jacket.

Sorry for your loss. This thread hits close to home as I had to put our 12 year old lab down last month. My 23 year old son was with me (at the vet) - quite a site - my son and I were sobbing like babies.

Just wanted to let all you folks know how much I appreciate your comments. Getting a little better now, and coming to the realization Rocky is no longer in pain, and knowing it was hard on me to make the decision, but it was the best thing for him....thanks again for all the kind comments.

Glad to hear it's getting a little better. You do have right out look on the whole event. As tough as it is, you needed to do right by your buddy by not keeping him around in pain for your comfort. THAT's the hard part, but it's the right thing to do. It still sucks. Better days ahead
