Anytime I have a problem with the engine stumbling, the first thing I do is pull the flame arrester, run the engine until warm, and cut the engine off. I look down the carb throat looking for any drip, drip, drip. That means the needle valve under the float is sticking.

Dirty carbs are just so common on two stroke motors.

I'm glad you easily found out your source of the leak.

Just called my local Yamaha parts dealer. This will be my first outboard repair ever. Gotta start somewhere I guess.

Fuel filter is $9.78
O-Ring is $1.78

I need to learn more about outboard carbs. I messed around with my '67 Mustang's carb, but that was a long time ago.

I have my parts. I am going to try to change the filter and o-ring tomorrow? Are there any tricks/tips? Is it as easy as it looks?

Yes. At least usually.

I replaced my o-ring, and fuel filter today. It was pretty easy. The hardest part was not dropping the bolt in the water. The old o-ring had lost it's elasticity, and was flat as a pancake. The old fuel filter looked to be in good shape, but I put the new one in anyway. It solved the problem. No more fuel leaking.
