Bingo.
By coating the wood or sealing it, any defect however slight will excellerate decomposition of the wood not to mention the moisture already in the wood when you seal it. In a marine enviroment the wood must be able to dry. A little oxygen a little moisture and and almost sealed piece of wood equal rot. Not a pissin match just facts

That might be true if this wood was totally open to the air but it is trapped between carpet and aluminum stringers. The edges will never really get dry if you use your boat very often and that is where the damage starts.

In a proper installation the wood is insulated from the aluminum stringers as added protection but with CCA that is not a problem as there are no reactive metals in CCA treated plywood. Can you name even one pontoon builder that glasses or seals there deck? I can't find

ne. I do however agree with you on sealing the edges.

It appears we have two
One who thinks rot and corrosion happens and one who denies it.

Nope your reading comprehension skills are seriously lacking. You said your corrosion was caused by stainless hardware. I have a 43 year old aluminum boat that says different.

Maybe when Ron has a reason to remove some bolts from his boat we will get an independent view and an apples to apples comparison.

Just wondering if anyone else's boat has any stainless hardware. I was thinking of a class action suit against Tracker since they installed faulty hardware on it that causes severe corrosion.
I was thinking maybe the Cochran firm. They still use Johnny's picture so they MUST be good, right ?
