At the dealer for the third log

#1 Post by rbiederwolf » Tue Jun 26, 2012 4:13 pm

Just drove up and back (3hrs each way :( ) to the Avalon dealer. I ordered a third tube for my Avalon and it arrived yesterday. They hope to have it ready by the weekend. :nana :nana :rofl

The new center tube will have lifting strakes. I had ordered them for the outer tubes, but they forgot to send them. So I will try it without and see if I need them - will save me about 500 dollars.

The transom on the new tube is longer in the back (versus the old one) by about a foot. I have read that this may help steering???

Anyway I am excited to see the difference. Mostly want better handling in rough waves and chop. However if I pick up some speed that would be a plus.

Ideally I will add a 150 Yammy to it when I can afford it. Will have to sell my 115 merc first. Probably wait till end of summer hoping to find a used 150.

Will report back with performance when I get it done and in the water

Regards

Awesome can't wait to hear about the results. I'm curious to see if the 115 will get you on plain with just the strakes on the center tube. WHEN I finally get to build my 3rd tube I'm going to install strakes on it first and see how it works. Then possibly install them on the outside logs, hopefully my motor will push it up on plain and get me by until I get the new merc 200

You're lucky! My Tahoe dealer is 1100 miles away, and I will never do business with them again.

The center strakes should be enough to get you on plane, with ease. The ride will be so much different from your 2 tube it will amaze you.
