Pontoon Log Noise??

#1 Post by B.Noise » Sat Jun 30, 2012 11:40 am

I have a 2005 Suntracker 25' Pontoon....Now my problem is I have a buckling sound coming from the Port side about 8'- 10' or so back from the Bow when underway going though choppy water when the port side dips down....At first I thought it was coming from the siding,I was sitting there with my hand on the siding but nothing.... sounds like the noise is coming from under.I talked with one dealer and the first thing he said was the Log was bad and the noise is coming from the Nose of the Log? ...Another dealer said it has to be coming from the floor which I've been under pushing & banging and can't find anything loose....Has anybody ever had this problem......Thanks for any input you can offer Me.

Hmm Sounds like you need to under skin you toon. Water is coming up and hitting your cross beams.

Sound only comes from the port side only, and just started last summer....I just thought it was water hitting the siding when that Log dips down until I sat on that side last weekend......Since I always drive I never noticed how loud it was..............

No, the dealer is probably right. They call it "oil canning' and my Manitou did it when riding and sitting at rest, when the port side pontoon was in the sun. It was coming from the nosecone, and when I was beached and on the phone with Manitou, it was doing it, I could actually see the nosecone moving, when it "popped". Greg could hear it in the background of the cell phone. They replaced them free, under warranty, during the off season. Stored the boat inside and replaced them with the newly designed "Barracuda" nosecones. Never did it again. I was happy!
Hope you have the same luck with yours!

Mine only does it when underway and if I ride though some choppy water, though smooth water not a sound and noise is always from the same location....From what the dealer tells me is Suntractor only warranty's them for 5 years and mine is 7 years old .....What would cause something like this to happen?.............. So if it is the Log does anybody know what kinda of price to replace :scared

So they replaced the whole Log or just the nose cone?

Ok..................Still working on this.....Dealer video tapes the noise which is coming from the Log.....puts in a claim with Suntracker....which is then denied .....no surprise.....Now this is 2 years out of warranty......I understand.....So I contact Suntracker which they say we'll look into it....But no surprise again is denied. What gets me the most is I spent that kind of money on thier product to which only last 7 years ,Now I have to spend 4-5 K ( log price, plus shipping and labor) to replace this bad log........I will never recommend Suntracker to anyone....I've had problems with the welds ever since I bought this.....which havent been covered under warranty because they weren't the Circular welds ( which are the only ones covered) I had to put plugs in just to drain the water out after every use.....Sorry just venting here........................................

It's ok to vent, if nobody ever told us their problems then we would be buying products that we wouldn't be happy with.
I vented plenty about my Merc 150 4 stroke and I would like to think that it may help other people in their choice of products when buying.
Only covering round welds is a bunch of crap.

I would call my insurance company and tell them you are having problems with the logs and see what they say.

Good also to keep up with what is covered in warranty an when it expires. Not that I do, but giving something a good once over several months prior to expiration might save you big bucks.
