Camping on my New Toon....thoughts?

#1 Post by Mosnowman » Tue Sep 04, 2012 8:00 pm

Okay I spent the entire budget on my new Harris and really can't afford a full enclosure so I had the following idea for routine camping...I have a large travel trailor but want to try out toon camping on the water occasionally..what do you guys think?

Measured the front area between the benches and it is 54 inches. A full size aerobed is exactly 54 inches. I found a cheap tent at Wally world that has a base of exactly 54 inches. The tent is for the DW privacy and all.

I also have some old army surplus mosquito netting that I can hang from my front bimini over my whole setup...back part of toon will only have bimini coverage no netting etc. Front end will be the "camper".

Thoughts? Am I missing anything? Total investment a couple hundred bucks.

Seems like someone here tried these and they worked well. Guess my primary concern would be protection from the rain. Guess you could put tarps down alone the wall of the tent to channel the water away from the tent. This link has a tent well off the floor.

How many in the tent?
We have slept on the toon three times while fishing and are going to do it again this Saturday night.
I am looking a small one at Academy for when it gets a bit cooler though, its still around 80 at night here.
I often wonder if Jimmy really did crack corn, and why should I care?

That's an interesting idea. I'd like to camp on mine.

I may have shared with you already about our setup but for others following the thread this might give some ideas for their use.

Jim, aka Lightpants here rafts up at Canal Days with us and uses a tent, it seems to work well for him.

We just slept under the playpen cover, in Manny1. I think the cover on the Premmie is too short. I'm scrunched up pretty good in there when I have it up. I'ld like to have an enclosure made. Miss camping on the river.
fredeboy, thats an awesome idea!

Bryden
We really like it because it leaves the front open to be able to fish or just relax and enjoy the stars. Works well for both :nana It surprised me how fast it goes up and comes down.
