what type of lock nut is this?

#1 Post by robdew » Thu Feb 14, 2013 12:40 pm

this is the lock nut off of my prop. I googled around and can't seem to find the name for this type of nut. I want to get a couple spares since it looks like it's somewhat obscure.

the prop drive shaft has two pins and this nut locks into those pins and then you bend up the other two flanges.

This is off an older Mercury Force.

Not to be a smart ass but this is a washer not a nut. I believe this is a dealer item. I know someone on the site knows the real name for this washer I just don't remember who it is.

It looks like some kind of splined washer (a washer to help lock a prp nut in place). I do not know what prop that would fit.

I'm not saying let's go kill all the stupid people.. I'm just saying let's remove all the warning labels and let the problem work itself out.

yeah searching for it as a washer was much more fruitful. Thanks everyone.

I am just used to props having castle lock nuts with cotter pins I couldn't get the term out of my head.

This same question was on here a month or so ago. It is a washer. The tabs on it are bent up around the nut once it is tighten down. That way it keeps it from turning. Check some of the past posts for the last one that was posted. They had the correct name for it which I don't remember.

Had similar ones on my old outboard - merc alpha one drive. They're called tab washers.
