12 volt power outlet issue

#1 Post by $mitty » Tue Jun 25, 2013 10:53 am

Hello
Have a problem with my 12 volt power socket on my pontoon. I have a 2008 24 foot sunchaser with a 90hp 4-stroke EFI, every time a plug something into it it blows the adapters. I have a couple cell charger it blew, a small car inverter, etc. It's not blowing the fuse in the boat though. Picture below shows socket. Any thoughts?

Take the plug apart and look for rust.

X2! Easy for them to make that mistake on a boat where you have to hook up the ground.

Is it a difficult fix? Something the dealer is going to have to do?

Thanks for your help guys.

Should be plug in conections, if not cut and splice them to the right poles, center of the plug is the + the sides are -

That will fix it! They just wired backwards... It is a :nutkick , though! Now you have to get new chargers... I'ld tell the dealer that its messed up from the factory. doubt you'll see anything, but at least they will know that it was f'ed up and you are not happy.

I had the same problem right after I purchased my toon. As everyone has said, I found that the factory had wired the 12V socket backwards. I wish every electrical problem was as easy to fix!

The guys above are most likely right, but if it's not that, check the wire & fuse size. It's not uncommon to find the outlets underpowered for today's needs
