no Prop numbers, plz help!!!!!

#1 Post by LisanJohn » Tue Jul 23, 2013 5:29 am

I have a prop question. my prop has a big chunk missing out of one of the blades and the repair shop says it will be about $135. I'm sure I can get a new one cheaper online. problem is I cant read the numbers on it at all. I have a 1989 40hp evinrude on a 20 foot toon. need an idea where to even start with what prop to get?

Have you removed the prop? Mine didn't have any identification numbers anywhere that I could see when the prop was on the motor. Once I removed it, I found a stamped number on the backside.

Is the prop aluminum or SS? If aluminum, $135 would buy you a new prop online. SS will run about $400 or more online. I had my aluminum prop repaired and repitched for $80 at a local prop shop.

You might just have to go to the Evinrude site and see what is recommended for that motor/boat combination.

You have a 12.5 x 13 is what was on my 50, and you can't buy cheaper than that repair and it will come out new, are you dealing with the prop shop or the mechanic ?

One thing about dealing with the prop shop, you tell them what it's used on and they can fine tune it for your boat.

Heard of them, I also found I-boats have good prices on new props with no shipping for ground shipping, so you can get a spare cheap
