Staycation

#1 Post by jshumphries » Mon Jul 29, 2013 4:33 pm

The travel time was perfect (5 minutes). The traffic was nonexistent. The lake was empty. The cooler was full. The watch and emails were left at home. Who needs to keep up with the Jones' or travel?? Best week yet and enjoying the kids before the grind of the school year starts back up.

Also saw the largest hawk I've seen in a long time. Heard the sparrow hawks screaming and tried to figure out what was up, then this guy came out of nowhere and landed in the top of the tree in our cove (eye test to see who can spot him).

Love being able to leave the real world and work world behind!

My grandson and I were camping last week in the North Georgia Mountains and had to run down to Gainesville.

And Lake Lanier is absolutely beautiful when it's a full pool--and one of the most used U.S. Government facility if not the most used. And that includes National Parks.

You must have missed the Poker Run on Lanier last weekend. They raised over $250,000 for their charities and had everything imaginable. The 42' MTIs and power cats were approaching 100mph. It was insane enough for me to stay within 1/2 mile of my marina and not even come close to venturing toward the main channels.

You're right about Lanier being a pretty crazy place on weekends.

I've simply never seen any more boats than that lake has. And the marinas are absolutely huge. If anyone is ever looking for used boats, they just need to drive around Lake Lanier. Every kind of boat is available there.
