Yamaha 115hp impellar housing

#1 Post by pelicantooner » Tue May 20, 2014 12:16 pm

So, I have a 2006 Yamaha 115. I have never replaced the impellar since new, so I thought I would take it in to be done.

Service dept. called me last Thursday and said the impellar had a little wear, but wasn't bad. He said the strange thing was that the

housing was melted. I am not a mechanic what so ever, so I had no idea what he was talking about. I pulled up a drawing showing

how to replace the impellar and figured he is talking the impellar housing. He said he has never seen this in his 26 yrs of doing this.

He had to order the part to fix it.

Any ideas of what may have caused this, so I don't do it again? He said it was a good thing I brought it in when I did.

Just Curious.

Sounds like it ran dry. Strange that the impeller survived that though.

I concour. It sounds like there was a lack of water in the housing to cause that kind of damage. However, I would also wonder why the impeller survived this, and not the housing. :donno
