Console question

I'm wondering how many of you have installed the DeckMate Console from PontoonStuff and how it has held up. I unpacked ours and was a little surprised that the whole console is plain plastic with only the access panel having a vinyl covering. For some reason I was expecting the whole thing to have a vinyl convering, which I think would make it look a whole lot better!

Beyond my concerns of the plastic fading from sunshine, I'm wondering if I will need to use a plywood backing for mounting the motor controls and steering? It seems to flex quite a bit and I'm a little worried that it won't hold up to years of teenager abuse.

What say you?

I have the bigger one that is all plastic. It does catch some stains but they wipe off for me. I did not have to support anything on the deluxe one.

Great value console. One thing to keep in mind is the mounting. Unit needs to be secured through the ribs in the base not the floor. It's plastic and will flex quite a but. Also I recommend drilling some drain holes in case ans attaching the cover plate with velcro vice the supplied screws.

I have had so much wooden crap rot away on boats over the years. This is all plastic very solid and now once I wire it all up I can forget about it and not worry if someone leans on it, this will not collapse. It has a great size feel and is easy to mount everything too.

Yea, I had read the reviews but none of them were from people who had been using them for any length of time. The older controls for my Honda are a little stiff, so the flex of the plastic has me worried. That's why I was considering the plywood backing, to spread out the load instead of just using washers on the three mounting bolts.

I too have noticed how the plastic bases of this furniture catch stains. I am hoping that they continue to wipe off without much work!

I guess it wouldn't hurt to have more backing. I know Herb put some in his deluxe console, but he is full time in the FL sun.

I had to put a backing on the steering, flexed to much, besides my cup holders blowing out going down the road it's fine so far

I to put in backing until I put in a BayStar system mine is a deluxe console hope that helps.
