Spider Nets - anyone use them?

A friend of mine told me about this material that is put up around a lot of the docks on Lake Texoma called Spider Nets. I googled the name and came across 3 different dealers in Texas that sell this stuff. You install this in your dock above you boat and it supposedly catches all of the spider poop from making those nasty stains on the seats, helm and railings.

Just wondered if any forum members here have used this stuff and it worked for you -- also, how expensive is this stuff. I've sent emails to the 3 dealers I found online to get pricing for enough material to go over the 10'x24' slip in our dock.

Never heard of it. What stops the spiders from being on the bottom side of it?

That was my question too. My buddy didn't know either, but apparently they work. Could possibly be that wind moves the netting enough to discourage spiders since they don't like it when their webs move.

Here in Kansas the wind blows almost all the time.

If blowing wind discouraged spiders, we wouldn't have any.

I'd be interested in something that kept spiders at bay, was effective and cost reasonable.

I'll look forward to any results for a "Test" of these.

I don't know if it would be possible for your guys, but we use an insecticide and spray the inside of our garage, and rafters. We use a product called Demand CS. We mix it up and put it in a sprayer and once a month we spray the heck out of it, more so in the summer. Works great for brown recluse's, and wolf spiders. I can deal with a lot of stuff, but when I see a spider I scream like a little girl, and run away faster than an olympic runner.

I read somewhere you can mix vinegar and water in a garden sprayer and spray the piss out of everything. Supposedly it keeps the spiders away. I may try it out and see if that works.

While the nets look nice, they also look $$$$.

I've tried spraying the ceiling of the dock with citronella and some sort of strong bug killer. It worked for a few hours, but the next day, the SOBs were back.

I got a quote back from one of the companies in Texas. This would be to cover our 10' x 24' slip in our dock -- so 240 sq feet of material. The first quote was for the $1215.00 but that included installation and them driving up from Plano, TX. I asked if I could get the material and install it myself. I then received a quote for $439.00 and that included all of the mounting hardware. I also got a quote of only $359 for the Spider Net only. That's not as bad as I thought it might be -- and worth not having to keep the cover on the boat all the time to stop the spiders from pooping on the boat.

I sent another email to ask the same question we all seem to have -- what stops the spiders from just going on the underside of the netting and still pooping on the boat. As soon as I get that answer, I'll let everyone know.
