ANCHOR FOR 22' PARTY BARGE ???

Howdy tooners I have been using a 20 pound mushroom anchor for most of the summer , it seems to do well most of the time.
But some times I have a problem with it not holding. Any suggestions ???

I use a Danforth anchor but I'm thinking of building a box anchor (I'm too cheap to buy one since they are pretty expensive).

I finally gave up with other types of anchors and bought a box anchor. Yes, it is way overpriced but it works. On the 4th of July we were anchored in 80' of water with a 100' rope and even with heavy boat traffic, we didn't move a inch. We got to enjoy the fireworks and not worry about the anchor.

BY Navy you mean fluked like a Danforth?

If that is the case it depends on bottom. Rock is tuff on any anchor but a fluked will work better than a mushroom most of the time in my experience.

I carry 2 - 15# Danforth style anchors, both with a few feet of chain. Make sure you set it properly by backing down so the flukes dig in.

I love my box anchor! No chain required, only requires 1/2 the rode as other anchor types, and it folds up for stowage. Holds like crazy!

I really would like to try a box, BUT at a minimum of 140 Bucks that seems steep!

Keep checking on Overtons site. They have sales and free shipping real often. Got our box anchor for 30% off and free shipping this summer. You don't need any chain, it folds almost flat and came with a nice heavy fabric bag for storage. You only need 1-2 times rode as well so if in deep water, you will still have enough rope in most cases.

Another vote for the box anchor. Never used one so when we bought our new 24' toon I purchased one. Used it both days this past weekend and it held like a champ even though the boat was getting bounced around a lot. My Danforth anchor would have pulled out of the sand in the same conditions.

When we got back, I hosed it off and let it dry. It folds flat and came with an anchor bag. Put it under one of the seats to store it. It was a little pricey but I look at it this way, how much is my peace of mind worth? I don't have to keep going back and checking my boat while we're walking around an island of hanging out with friends on the beach. Plus the way they pack the boats in here on some of our islands/sandbars, if my front anchor breaks loose it could be a fuster cluck very quickly.

Another vote for Overtons. They will match any website price if they can view the price on line. I found mine way cheaper on another site. At the time, Overton's had a 10% discount (which they may still be offering) and free shipping. They matched the lower price, knocked off 10% and shipped it free. I received it in a few days. Totally pleased with Overtons.
