thoughts?
The mother of a lady I work with is selling a 2006 aloha silver start 25 ft pontoon boat with a 90 hp mercury 4stroke. She is only asking $2500 for it and trailer. Only been put in water once in the pastcouple of years but has had new flooring/carpet and seats redone about 3 years ago. I'm thinking about buying it and putting a new Bimini top on it and new battery, cleaning it up really good and maybe reselling it? Would I be wasting money or could I come out on top? Has a pretty good size dent in the back of pontoon but doesn't effect it so they say. Don't know if its possible to get that out or not. Here are some pics of it. Like I said, needs a GOOD cleaning but think it would look pretty good afterwards.

Re: thoughts?
What's the condition of the motor? As they say, "You buy a motor and you get a free boat." Much easier to repair the cosmetics of the boat than the workings of the motor.

Yes 2500!! Motor ran great last fall when had it out, so I figure a good tune up and it will be good to go?

My aluminum guy says to drill a hole and use a rod and a hammer to tap it out from the other side.Jake202 wrote:Anyone know if it is possible to get the dent out of toon?

Re: thoughts?
that does not look like a 2006,
i would believe 1996, the fencing design is exactly what my 1997 came with, right down to the creme color...
the console, seating design etc is not modern enough for a 2006
but it is still a deal. the motor is worth more than that.

I was gonna say... The furniture, fence, helm, layout, etc. all look more like 96 than 06. Still a good deal in my mind.rockhound wrote:that does not look like a 2006,

Re: thoughts?
That seating is aftermarket WISE Classic seating. If it cleans up and doesn't have faded stripes or split seams consider it a miracle. And I agree, looks to be a 96 and that motor looks like a 2 stroke although I admit I'm not a Merc guru.
All things aside...if it's got a sound motor and trailer, I'd buy it all day long just as a rebuilder. A stern entry unit with decent sized toons, on a bunk trailer with a 90HP motor will sell quickly in the spring in our area.

Re: thoughts?
I've heard of a trick to get dents out of metal.Jake202 wrote:Anyone know if it is possible to get the dent out of toon?
Heat the dent with a heat gun (hair dryer doesn't get it hot enough)
After the dent area is good and hot, place and hold a dent sized chunk of dry ice on and around the dent. (wear welding-type gloves)
Metal has "shape memory" and the shock of heat/cold should pop it back to it's original shape.
It works on smaller round dents, aluminum is a soft enough metal it wouldn't hurt to try on that large one.

Re: thoughts?
If it's a big dent and not creased I had put 3 psi air pressure on the toon and started hitting the edge of the dent hard with a rubber mallet to bounce it back up. A suction cup like they use to move glass and mirrors might work also.Jake202 wrote:Anyone know if it is possible to get the dent out of toon?
