Anyone use pontoon stands when taking off the trailer??
HI guys, any of you use pontoon stands made out of poly to put the toon on when cleaning or doing trailer repairs? I saw some and was wondering as I need to clean my toon and I have the bunk type trailer so it will hinder me from accessing a lot of the logs. Thanks Mac

I use the poly stands to store my Pontoon
I use three on each side, one at each weld section
However i use a center lift trailer to move my pontoon,
its going to take a little more work to unload off a bunk type trailer.
It makes life a lot easier to set boat down and remove trailer.
The stands are great, very lightweight and they stack for easy storage
better than moving heavy concrete blocks around the yard.
My neighbor reinforced his at the bottom with steel flat stock and has
castors on each corner and he sets his down in the driveway and rolls the boat into
the corner of his garage

I use 4x4,s on top of the bunks when painting ours. I was told at the dealership not to put the blocks at the weld sites, but near them.

Wow - the only way my boat comes off the trailer, is to put it in the lake. She sits on the trailer all winter. Never considered taking her off.

I would question the logic behind not putting the support right on the welded portion of the toon. It has to be the strong point IMHO. BTW what did you use to get the bote up off the trailer?cleatus wrote:I use 4x4,s on top of the bunks when painting ours. Re: Anyone use pontoon stands when taking off the trailer??
the manual for my pontoon specifically says to put the supports under the welds
3 places under each pontoon
The plastic stands also support the pontoon with a larger contact area than a board or a cement block

Re: Anyone use pontoon stands when taking off the trailer??
Just curios cleatus, is that anti-foulant or just bottom paint?
Just my opinion but there are bulkheads or baffles at the welds, so I would think close to them would be a good place to put a 4x. One could cut a radius to make it less stressful or possibly a rubber pad but pontoons aren't heavy animals so it may be overkill everywhere but the stern near the motor.

My marina guy is 100% AGAINST using any kind of 'stand', whether they are blocks, wood, or plastic. He says he has seen too many tubes ruined by unequal support, regarless of where the supports are placed. He says to ALWAYS set the boat on tires in order to evenly support it.

Re: Anyone use pontoon stands when taking off the trailer??
Here are the toon pads in case somebody has not seen them yet.
my dealer sells them and recommends them,
The manufacturer of my boat recommends that they be placed on each weld seam or 3 per side on my boat.
They sell in sets of four but will sell you six if you ask nicely.
I am getting too old to hump concrete blocks or old dirty tires around.
I have seen pontoons around here on 4x4s, concrete blocks, bricks, tire rims exc. I am sure many are damaged.
I am sure that the ideal thing would be to place about 6 tires on each side, that would really cushion the toons best.
I do make sure that they are on a flat level area so the toons touch evenly and nothing is twisted.
These things are the best thing since beer

I thought putting support at the welds would be the proper method also, I don't know why they (dealership) told me different, maybe someone on here could let us know what is right, though Mike's owners manual did say "at the welds", so maybe that is the way to go.
I used a T-brace (deadman) with a floorjack to pick it up, the full length keel is sitting on the 4x4's, above each bunk support. It is only temporary, maybe 2-3 hrs, to apply the bottom paint . I've done this twice so far with no damage to the tubes. It sits on the trailer all winter like BobG.'s.
RcgTexas- It's a copper free anti-fouling paint (Pacifica Plus) on top of an epoxy barrier coat. It's pricey but works great, our boat is in a wet slip all season and I paint her every other year.
BTW, they are 27" tubes on our boat, I'm happy with the ride.
