Prop help...

#1 Post by justrfb » Fri Apr 10, 2015 1:04 pm

Hello All.
I have this question in the middle of another thread but need help now because I ordered a prop and it is already here!... :paranoid We have a 2007 "plain Jane", 2 toon, 20' pontoon boat with a 2007 75 Merc 4 stroke hanging off the back. I have a non-cupped 11" pitch prop on it now and running 21.8 MPH (GPS) @ 6,200 RPM, light to moderate load. I ordered a Blackmax 13" pitch prop, so I increased the pitch by 2" and cupped it too. The operating range for my 4 stroke is 5,000 - 6,000 RPM. Did I get too much prop?
Thank you for any and all thoughts, opinions and answers.

Sincerely,
Rich

Probably not, but there's really only one way to find out.

Do you have a local boat shop that you could purchase a prop at? I know you already have the new one, but hear me out. My dealership / mechanic shop told me I could buy a new prop, try it out, and if it didn't work like I wanted I could return it, as long as it still looked like new. I did this when I first purchased the boat, with a bigger prop. It didn't work like I wanted, so I exchanged for a new one that was a direct replacement for the one I already had.

You could try that, if the one you purchased doesn't work. Or, you could try to sell it on here or Craigslist and recoup most of your $$, to put towards another one.
