Custom Mooring Cover

#1 Post by Will » Thu Jul 09, 2015 7:30 am

Contacted the manufacturer of our Berkshire Pontoon boat asking if I could purchase a new mooring cover from them and they said I should contact the nearest dealer, which I did and they responded by saying bring your boat in and we will take measurements and send them out to get one made for $1650 plus tax.

My questions are is that too much for a cover with snaps, also is vents really worth it the cover we have now has them and the water comes in threw them. It also loses its color on our hands and it has holes in it which I patched with Gorilla tape which is doing the job.

Yes. Too much.
I had a custom travel cover made for $1,250. Serious anchoring to the deck, for travel at 65 MPH without damage. Find a good custom canvas place near you, and contact them.

Considering your location says Canada, that might not be out of line. Especially if they are using a quality fabric such as Sunbrella or Surelast.

But as other stated, do a search. Ask around local lakes...some old timers in my area don't even bother to advertise. They get enough word of mouth business. Good luck.

Wait - I didn't see that you're in Canadia.
Isn't $1,650 Cdn about ... hmm ... $22,346.88 US?

$1500 in California. That's why I made my own.

I put the vents on that also connect to support poles.

$1650 CDN is probably about right.

My dealer has his own canvas shop. Mine wore out after 10 years. He quoted me $625 for a replacement. I ended up trading it off so didn't bother getting a new one.

When I thought I was going to have to take my boat out of an indoor storage building, I looked into having a custom cover made.... my boat's a 20 footer and the price quoted for a sunbrella cover with snaps would be 1600 to 1700.

I got a beautiful custom Sunbrella cover that fits better than my factory cover did. $860 from a local canvas shop. If you're going to get a custom cover, read this: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18697&p=155290#p155290
