Thanks for the quick reply........ I think our ERROR was using what we already had, FOAM pads, rather than a wool bonnet.
Still more to go, we'll get a wool one and give it a shot !
thanks again,
Richard

Re: Toon Scrub and Polish
The white diamond is probably the best an easiest to use, but beware it will show every imperfection in your toons and takes awhile to do, if you have never polished your toons before there is no way you could do the whole boat in an hour, if it had been previously done then yes, it cn be done quickly, but if you are starting from scratch, plan on a couple of days, and definately use the Napa Aluminum brightner first, as this will make it alot easier, and remember, aluminum starts to oxidize within 20 minutes of being exposed to the air, we do alot of painting of aluminum frames, and we use a wire wheel to remove any oxidation and do it in small batches so we can get a coat of etching primer on it within 20 minutes of wire brushing it and never have problems with the pint sticking to it, I have seen alot of people just use etching primer, with out removing the oxidation, and the paint never sticks,Tim

That pic is from while I was actually in the process of polishing. A ton of work but look awesome when done. I used the Airway buffing pads and some Rouge.

Re: Toon Scrub and Polish
After spending considerable time on my buddies boat, I told him I thought we should get Airway buffing pads and Tripoli and white rouge bars.
I was at a huge Street Rod Nationals car show last weekend and one of the big buffing supply companies was there. I bought their yellow and white 8" pads with adaptor for the Makita polisher as well as a white cone for the hard to get areas. Also a 3 pound brick of the Tripoli (brown) and White finishing bars.
Yesterday, we hit it again on his Tri Toon going over top of what we had done before with the Porter Cable dual action using White Diamond.
The AIRWAY buffing pads with rouge make an INSTANT result........ WOW !!!!!! Just like what you see on the youtube videos from the truck guys. These pics are only after using the brown Tripoli rouge and the yellow pad. Today, we'll go back and hit it with the White pad and white bar of rouge to finish it.
Incredibly filthy work. Forgot to wear a mask, although I did wear eye protection. Payback is hell....... my buddy will get the pleasure of helping me on our boat next spring.....
The one pic is a reflection pic into the toon of me.

Re: Toon Scrub and Polish
So did you immediately SHARKHIDE it, or use something else to protect the finish??? By tomorrow, noon, the first toon will be 100% complete. I still have a quart of Sharkhide left over from when our boat was acid washed and sealed 2 years ago. My buddy can use my Sharkhide, if that is still the go to protectant.
I'm guessing you did something to protect it from oxidation right away, correct ?
We're now about 95% done with one side, and the other side has been sanded, and polished with the Porter Cable dual action....... which we will now go over with the yellow wheel, and white wheel.

Re: Toon Scrub and Polish
Napa Aluminum Brightener
I was wondering if I have to scrub the toons first prior to using this? I've got my boat out of the water right now, and there was some light algae growth on the toons. Do I need to knock that off first prior to using the Brightener, or do I simply spray, wait, rinse?
Thanks!
