2015 Evinrude E-Tec Burning Oil

#1 Post by jwachevy » Sat Jul 04, 2015 3:36 am

I'm looking for information ? I have a Evinrude E-tec 40hp on a 22ft
Southbay. I've had it a year. It has burned 2 GALLONS of oil at the 35 hour
Mark, I've read on Evinrude Nation it's normal and I've read it's not.
Anyone have experience on this??

Thanks

Seem about right considering double oil break-in and figure 1 gallon per 50-75 gallons of gas burnt.

They burn considerably more during breakin. What oil was your outboard setup for by the dealer? I assume the 40 hp motors can be setup to run XD30 50 or 100. If programmed for XD100 they obviously use much less oil.

2 strokes are suppose to burn oil. :biggrin2

But seriously that sounds correct.

That sure is a lot of boat for a 40hp motor. Could you possibly be putting to much strain on the motor? I'm just throwing this out there. Good luck. Love Etec.

Now that you've got some hours on the motor, it's time to document your fuel usage vs. oil usage. Keep some good records in the near future and regroup after you have exact information on your boat's performance. Without specifics, it's hard to tell where you stand.

Good thing is that you have a good, long warranty.
