Re: make bunks slick
It's nice to have an area on the bunks that are slick. But not too slick. Nothing is worse than looking in your rear view mirror and see your boat bouncing down the road. A little friction is sometimes good. And so are some great ropes as a backup to your winch.

Re: make bunks slick
This may not be what you';re looking for but it is an option... it's a marine bunk spray called "liquid rollers".... you just spray it on the bunks, let it dry.... I realize this isn't what you asked about, but it's something you could use while your considering other options. I used it last summer, worked pretty good... remember what bama said... be careful and don't get to slick... The lady that cuts my hair told me that a couple of years back they dropped their boat on the launch ( V hull ) because they had unhooked the winch strap before they backed down the ramp... as they started down the ramp the boat slid right off the trailer... thousands of dollars of damage to the boat and motor.... btw I think you can buy liquid rollers at bass pro, and I know you can buy it at countless places on line.

Re: make bunks slick
I'm still considering taking the carpet off my boards, and replacing it with vinyl, like a pvc material. I think I'm going to put this on all of my bunk boards because my boat sticks to the trailer soo badly.

Re: make bunks slick
For my toon, the trailer bunks have lengths of plastic in place that have a tread similar to "Diamond Aluminum".
It appears to make it slick enough to help with loading and reducing friction on the logs but not so slick as to make the toon fall off the trailer inadvertently.
A quick search found ones identical to mine here:

Re: make bunks slick
Thanks Guys for the links..
My lake is so low that the ramps are out of the water....so I just back it in from the shore anywhere I find a steep angle.
I just want to put the slick bunks up front, as that is the last part of the toons to come off.

Re: make bunks slick
I ordered my tri-toon's trailer with the plastic covered bunks. So far, it's been easy to back off or drive on and to the bow stop.
I've not yet encountered a ramp steep enough for the boat to slip, but the trailer did come with a short, adjustable aircraft tie-down cable that backs up the winch strap, and would stop the boat before it slid to far in case of the strap breaking.

Re: make bunks slick
I have done this with mine and it does help, I bought the vinyl boards from Home Depot and counter sunk them into my boards right over the carpet.GXPWeasel wrote:I'm still considering taking the carpet off my boards, and replacing it with vinyl, like a pvc material. I also sprayed some waterproof silicone on the vinyl boards to help once a season.
