DIY glove boxes?

#1 Post by Joseph Elliott » Wed May 04, 2016 4:46 pm

The space I have available on my console doesn't allow for a normal size glove box. Does anyone have any experience making their own?

What about a "dry box" instead of trying to make anything? If you want it permanent then mount it somewhere.

I found and bought this one pre-made online, bought it and installed myself. They say measure 3 times and cut once, pretty sure I measured that hole 7 times before I made a cut. Turned out great especially since I didn't have a glove box before this one. Anyway, the box I'm sure is home made (or professionally made) just by using that plastic sheet material (can't think of the name right now) that you see used for many things on boats. I'm sure you could use the same concept to make whatever size you need. If you need I could take more close up pictures but it would be a couple weeks until we're back at our boat, just let me know.

Walter,
Where online did you find that one? It is much nicer than the one that came standard on out 2007 Bennington.

I do think it may have came from that great lakes skipper place. I'll have to do some looking and digging to see for sure, I just looked at their website, and they've got alot more options now. I don't think I paid more than $50 or $60 for it. A guy could easily make one out of that starboard material and some stainless hardware but for about $60 I don't think your going to come out saving too much after buying the materials.
