Getting water inside boat
My compartments are getting wet . I scotch guarded the seams...Will that be enough or does anyone know a good product for water proofing ..?????
Re: Getting water inside boat
Not sure about your boat, but mine is open around the bottom of the sidewalls. While this lets water IN, it also lets water OUT. That could be an important consideration if you have a wave break over the deck. Figuring this was an important tradeoff, I make sure everything stowed under the seats is either waterproof, in a plastic tub, or in a dry-bag.
But I know essentially nothing, as I have a total of about 15 hours on my first boat. It's just speculation.

I think he is talking about the storage compartments.
I use plastic tool boxes for storage. I am looking for some nice dock boxes for the next generation boat. No joy so far in the size I want.

Re: Getting water inside boat
We don't have leaks/water probs so not using any waterproofing. We do use 303 on all the seats but I don't think that it does anything for waterproofing. Do you have water sloshing around under your seats?faster than brian wrote:My compartments are getting wet . For any water that might drip down due to wet suits, etc. we chanced upon some plastic grating at Lowe's (no idea what its original purpose is). We cut it to fit the floor under each seat so that everything that's stored under seat sits on top of the grate. Works great to keep everything bone dry. I'll add a pic next time down at dock.

Re: Getting water inside boat
Glad its not just me!!!
My seat compartments are getting wet as well.
Mind you, I don't have a cover so I use tarps. The wells in the bottom have holes and are unclogged so water gets out but the stuff is damp.
My issue is with the rain and not the waves. The chairs are dry as a bone but the inside is wet.

as people/guests come to the boat, i tell them to expect everything they bring on board to get wet, even when stowed under seats.

Have you actually tried Never Wet? From the video, it looks like all it does is turn the water into droplets. Stuff under the seats would still be sitting in water?
Don't have leaking or condensation issues (yet; haven't been out in a storm) but we cut these plastic grates (lowe's) to fit on the floors of each of our under-seat storage area. Ounce of prevention and all that.

Re: Getting water inside boat
I had a water problem under the back lounge seat as it was open to the floor. Not the plastic bucket type I have under the seats. I raised the floor with plastic lattice cut to size and used SS screws to attach 1" PVC pipe. Now water can drain and my stuff stays dry.

I have two compartments that are not sealed, one being under the helm, that I've fitted with Dri Dek from West Marine. Bags stay up off the floor and do not get soaked from rain, waves, and spilled beers.
