Trolling Motors - What Do You Have

#1 Post by guitarbob » Thu Jun 07, 2012 9:05 am

I have a 12V Minn Kota, with 55lb thrust. Probably going to replace with a 24V for fishing for White Bass, and Hybrids on these rough and windy Texs reservoirs.

Just wondering what some of the other folks on the forum are using.

Bottom of the price rang Minnkota, but Iuse it just for my dinghy. Works great and I can get 3 1/2 days out of the battery during Canal Days and that's a lot of trips from boat to dock.

Thanks Blackberg. Probably should have posted this in the fishing section. Do you know the shaft length on your Minn Kota?

I have a 80 pound thrust minn kota riptide it is 24volt and it is a beast. Moves my pontoon around like a bass boat. I have the slide mount and that is a nice feature for removing when not in use.

65# thrust Minn Kota with Auto Pilot 24 volt. Shaft is 55". This was on my previous fishing boat (Ranger 692VS) and it works great on my toon. I also have the Minn Kota slide mount so it can be easily removed.

I fish for stripers so being able to slowly pull live bait on free lines, planer boards, and downlines is a must on my lake. The auto pilot lets you set your course and just let it do its thing.

I have a 75 pound 24volt Motorguide with remote control. I have found the remote (hand-held) to be very helpful as I can be anywhere on the boat and still control the trolling motor.

my shaft is 60"
Its a couple of years old, a riptide model.
I think the comparable model now is the 55" 80#

Minnkota 55# V1 with Autopilot/Co-Pilot/Universal Sonar. It has enough power for my 20' unless I have the Bimini Top up on a windy day. I LOVE the co-pilot, especially with having to tend to kids fishing lines all the time. I picked mine up off Craigslist for 350$, new would have been 779$

That's handy, you can tie one of these to it and wave it in the air.

If you were not fishing Richland Chambers you would not have such a problem! LOL
Course you would miss out on one of the best fishing lakes in Texas. Love that lake :nana
I have the 55 lb 12v 55 in. shaft Motor Guide with the remote steering on my 22 ft Gruman. It does OK up to about 20 mph winds but not great. I do love the remote steering from anywhere on the boat. Hope to see you out there sometime!!
