Second Bimini...Installation Question

#1 Post by Mosnowman » Wed Jun 13, 2012 7:11 pm

So I have ordered my second factory Bimini for my Harris Flotebote...now before it gets here I have a question for you experts....on installing it.

I have noticed that it looks like some Toons have the second Bimini mounted far forward and it extends back towards the other original Bimini....while others have Biminis that look like they both will extend forward. What are the advantages / disadvantages of installing one way over the other?

The biggest advantage is you now have two bimini's and cover a lot more area. I don't know what your boat is designed for forward or rear facing second bimini. But once you get it you will know which way it faces. There are really no problems with either. I know I would not worry about it as I always have mine up and covering the area it is designed for.

Some are designed so when they are both open they zip together so there is no void. This will determine wich way you mount yours. If it doesn't zip together I would guess you could mount it either way provideing you have the proper clearance.

When I got my boat with factory installed second bimini, I assumed both would be tilted back in the stowed position. However, when it arrived, one was leaning fore and the other aft. When I asked the dealer about it, they said it depended upon the length of the toon whether or not both could lean aft. Longer toons could have both biminis leaning aft, while a shorter one needed the front one leaning forward in order to allow the support struts to not interfere with the port side gate when it was in the deployed position.

Sounds more complicated when I try to put it in writing, but it makes sense when you see it. :lol3
