Almost did not make it home, left the boat in Missouri
Thanks to my wifes persistancy in leaving the boat at our condo at The Lake of the Ozarks, yesterday, we made it home alive. We drove without incedent for 350 miles, until we got 20 miles from home. As we were passing a Lincoln Town car, he decided to swing out and pass the car in front of him. I had to hit the brakes hard, drive off the side of the left hand lane, into the grass meridian dividing the 4 lane highway. If the boat would have been behind us, it would have probably jack knifed and ended up in the middle of the meridian, on top of us, and left a few other cars in the carnage. We got through it with no contact from him, but the truck is gonna need a good alignment, after going through the drainage field. Worst part, the SOB floored the ole Lincoln and didn't even look back at what he did. After 25 years and I don't know how many miles driven down to Missouri, (tens of thousands), plus other far away places we have towed the boat to, this was the first close call we have had.
Hope its the last!

Glad to hear that you are okay. And yes, one needs to always anticipate the stupidity of others.

oh dear lord, I know those drivers...two weeks ago I was pulling my pontoon from one shop to another (motor problems) through town during rush hour, three things like I like to avoid.. downtown, rush hour, and a 25ft long trailer through town... My trailer does not have brakes (surge or otherwise) so I leave a wide berth between me and the car ahead of me and idiots kept pulling into my safe zone. No less than 4 cars did this; one did it just as the light ahead of us turned red, he panic stopped, causing me to lock up the binders in the pickup, I heard all 4 wheels squealing (swear words did happen), its like they are oblivious to the fact that there is a large truck pulling an even larger pontoon behind it.
Glad to hear you are OK

Bryan... sounds scary....none the less, glad you and your wife got thru it without being hurt.. and yeah, especially lucky you didn't have the boat behind you... there's no way you could have avoided a disaster if you had your rig behind you. btw, I now have 12 ez fenders for my boat... the second set I bought from you ( 6 ez fenders ) was intended to go to my son for his pontoon... but he informed me this past weekend he is thinking of selling his boat....no point in giving him those ez fenders if he decides to sell his toon....Thats ok, my neighbor is considering buying my son's boat and if he does I'll just give him the ez fenders to put on the boat... Great neighbor, has helped me out of many jams....

For this exact reason, I installed electric brakes on my boat's trailer. I had, and still have the same thing happen to me almost every time I have the boat hooked to the truck. F-ing morons out there.
