How do I convince wife to make wider turns when towing?

#1 Post by ksmith » Sat Jul 14, 2012 11:20 am

Had a great week at Crystal Springs on Lake Ouachita last week...until we decided to go home.

On our way out, I was headed to the dump station for the tanks on the camper and she was following me with the boat in tow. There's no place to park there other than the boat launch area and it is sometimes full.

Anyway, all went well until we were pulling out of the dump station. It has a circular drive, by the way. She turns too tight and knocks over the 4 foot tall concrete fresh water faucet with the left pontoon log and trailer fender.

Any idea what it would take to fix dents and deep scratches in a log? I'm guessing a Ding Kingâ„¢ isn't going to get it done.

Doesn't that just make you sick?

Not much you can do about a wife's driving. They never improve in the driving department. All you can do is banish them from towing the boat.

I once tried backing my travel trailer into a campsite between two trees in the dark. All I saw was black in my rear view mirrors. After being unsuccessful, my wife backed the RV into the campsite the first time. Now she thinks she's the best trailer backer around--and I just agree. I've learned to pick my fights.

That's what insurance is for.

You wife needs better training. Betty can thread between a bass boat and cruiser on our ramp in the dark of night and half drunk.

Yes she is

How many of you guys berate and make fun of your wife in front of her? How about when she is trying and you yell and belittle? There is little incentive to be better when all she gets is mean comments.
Bamma in one statement you say banish them from helping and the next you praise yours.

Sorry but if you help and not hinder she will be a damn good boating partner

Amen, Loyd. Cheryl was into boating (her Dad was a lifelong boater) before we met and she's an expert at helping me launch, retrieve and tie up in the slip. When we have guests, we have to tell them not to help because we can do it faster, lol. I shake my head at couples getting into domestic disputes at the marina or launch ramps. Boating is supposed to be enjoyable and relaxing and getting into a domestic over a simple mistake is pointless. I am sure Kevin's wife feels terrible enough for what happened and yeah his insurance will cover it. If not, they can make up a "battle damage" story :rofl :rofl :rofl

The dent can be SOMEWHAT fixed, but aluminum being aluminum, it will always be visible even if you paid a guy who specializes in aluminum repair to fix it.

I don't know where everyone got the idea that we got into some domestic dispute over the deal. :donno She's 5 foot tall, but could probably whoop my ass if push came to shove. :)

I was just showing what happens when you don't look in your mirrors and make wide enough turns.

My advice, leave the dent and point to it whenever your wife drives, Those turns will be wider. She might start hitting things on the other side tho. At least it will match.
