Voyager Pontoons
Just curious to see if anyone out there has/had a voyager pontoon... The guy I bought my bennington from has a voyager tri-toon with a hard top with a 150 mercury that he will possibly trade out. Would it be worth it, or just keep my bennington?
Re: Voyager Pontoons
Please let us know the year, model, equipment, etc. on your Bennington.

Re: Voyager Pontoons
I have a 2000 bennington 2575LX with a 90hp mecury... the voyager is a 1999... he also has a 1999 suntracker with a 115 mecury and has a hard top. I'm def not set on getting rid of my boat, but i do like the hardtop option... That would be the main reason i would even consider trading...My 90 hp motor gets me around the lake just fine so i don't need a new motor

Re: Voyager Pontoons
Jake, IMO voyager is a better than average quality pontoon. The U logs and aluminum deck are nice quality options that a lot of manufacturers are afraid to spring for. My only real gripe was the size of the wiring they used which gave me some electrical problems when I upgraded the stereo.
One note: I have a leak in one of my logs along a lifting strake (again). I think it is pretty common. BUT since they are filled with closed cell foam, I can run the toon all day with the leak w/o it looking like I am sinking on one side. Voyager logs have a lifetime warranty (may be just for the original owner) so I will take it in to get it fixed whenever it becomes convenient or after the season ends.

Re: Voyager/sun tracker pontoon
I hear everyone talking abt tri-toons and would like one myself. I just don't want to be downgrading from my Bennington. What abt sun tracker?

You would be downgrading if you went from a Bennington to a Voyager.Jake202 wrote:I hear everyone talking abt tri-toons and would like one myself. I just don't want to be downgrading from my Bennington. What abt sun tracker?

Re: Voyager/sun tracker pontoon
Sun Tracker is about equal in quality to any other make, Bennington included. Even better if the Tracker has Duradeck and not plywood. Most components pontoon builders use are exactly the same.Jake202 wrote: What abt sun tracker?

Re: Voyager Pontoons
I took a tracker out about a month ago. The furniture looked nice enough, but if you looked, you could see a lot of flaws in the quality of construction. The attention to detail was a lot different then what you see in the new Premiers & Benningtons.
I agree that if you are comparing a tritoon bennington to a tritoon Voyager (apples to apples) the Bennington is far superior. But if one has more logs, a better/metal deck, or a significant option like a set back motor or strakes, that's the one I'd choose.

Re: Voyager Pontoons
I looked at some Bennys at the boat show a few months ago. Be aware there is a "G" series and an "S" series. Huge difference underneath. One has 4" risers, the other has 12" risers.
That may not mean anything on a calm lake but I want the extra strength in rough water.
I still think my next boat will be a custom made job.

Greg: But every Bennington has the same fantastic hull warranty--regardless of price. And, many really nice models are still less expensive than comparable SunTracker Regency boats.
If you're going to have a pontoon custom made, get at it. You're the "grandfather" of all pontoon boats with the most hours run of anyone we know. We're just on this earth a short time, and I hope my week old Bennington is the last boat I'll ever buy. I had no idea my Yamaha gearbox would go out after "only" 26 years of reliable service.
I was at a neighbor's yesterday, and he was telling me he had repairs done to his old Waverunner and needed to put it back in the water. Doug is almost 91 years old and still riding PWC's.

mine has only 2 toons with a wood deck. IDK abt the voyager tri toon, but the suntracker has all aluminum and the hardtop deck...

Sun Tracker also has a lifetime warranty on it's Duradeck and pontoon log welds, transferable...don't know, but my boat's been though:
6 foot waves during a Chesapeake squall:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2214&p=13772&hilit= ... ugh#p13772
And on June, 30, 2012 (during Canal Days) in a severe storm with 70-80 mph winds (with 4 people on board, 2 scantily clad/naked women (some of you were there to witness said scantily clad/naked women AND the killer storm), myself and a buddy. Everyone felt safe and my boat didn't get a scratch.
Look under a Sun Tracker with Duradeck and you'll see they are built solid, better than any plywood decked boat and you won't have to do a total rebuild every 10 years when the plywood rots out. Tracker has reduced the number of boats with Duradeck from 2009-on though.
Besides their excellent build quality, the company has been around forever. Some of these smaller companies have been through bankruptcies, closings, reopenings, etc. Some no longer make pontoon boats at all.
All this and it's as good as new, Duradeck held up well. Had it been a plywood decked boat, there wouldn't be much left to rebuild.
