Ruined tires!
Well the past 2 weekends when I get to my boat I have had a ruined tire by crap in the road! I am sick of dealing with flats making it's 2 pm before I am on the water! Then I get to buy a tire this sucks an having 60% tread left. I hope this week is different! Hope everyone is enjoying there time on the water this summer the weather has been great for it at least in my area!

Sorry for your misfortune but -----Bear Trailer

Nothing but trouble with my Bear trailer. 60% treadleft? In theory a tire should never wear out, but they usually dry rot. If yours has been out in the sun for 4 years, you probably were due for new tires.

I'm not saying let's go kill all the stupid people.. I'm just saying let's remove all the warning labels and let the problem work itself out.

Re: Ruined tires!
Often overlooked is that when you get a flat on a dual-axle trailer the remaining tire is overloaded & should also be replaced. Could be a factor if you are having problems on the same side...

I've never had tires wear out on any boat I've owned. Dry rot, yes...

Which is why all my play toy trailers have axle/tire combos that can handle the load on there own. When I built my pontoon trailer the difference in price between 3800# rated pair vs 7500# rated pair was 160$ (40$ per axle, and 20$ per tire). For that 160$ difference the tires/axles are only at 50% capacity instead of near 100% and IF I get flat on a busy highway, road with a small shoulder it only takes me 30 seconds to run back and use a ratchet strap to lift flat up in the air and continue driving to a safe place. Even better if a wheel bearing goes south. I will NEVER own a trailer with 2+ torsion axles either as the load is never shared 50/50 between the axles like a properly setup leaf/equalizer will.

Re: Ruined tires!
I hear ya. I am burning through a front tire on my tandem about every 20 trips to the lake. I assume its a bad axle, its not the bearing, checked those. Im lucky a buddy is in the trailer biz and I get new tire/wheel combos for $25 from him.

Re: Ruined tires!
I can commiserate. I have a Bear trailer. My rear tires went bald very quickly. The fronts have great tread. The rears are the ones with brakes on them, and I don't' know if that matters or not. I had a guy tell me that when I make turns, one tire on each side becomes a pivot and the other one is pretty much slid sideways against the tread.
I don't know. All I know is I have to buy two new tires before we take the boat out again.

Check to make sure you don't have a bent axle, thta can be a very likely cuse.I hear ya. I am burning through a front tire on my tandem about every 20 trips to the lake. Re: Ruined tires!
Your friend is correct...I have a triple axle trailer and the boat shop tried to turn the trailer too sharply on a smooth concrete floor and pulled a front tire sideways right off the rim! i love these guys!!ksmith wrote:.
