Anything over 8.5 feet would be illegal in your state, and most others, not to mention a tight fit in places. Most modern toons are 8.5 feet by their self. This is why most toon trailers have the guides on the insides of the toons. Like Greg said though, depending on your local fuz, it may never be an issue.
Thanks for the info..... but what I take from that is even the guides that go straight up and down would be illegal right? I say that because my toon is 8 1/2 feet wide, and the guides, whether they are straight up and down, or angle outward as mine do, would both still be beyond the width of the boat, correct. Not trying to be argumentative, just trying to reason it out.... if 8.5 is the limit, and my boat is already 8.5, then it stands to reason that anything beyond that would be illegal. makes sense right?

Yes, even the outside guides that are straight would be over the limit with a boat that is already 8.5.

Roland, next time you have the boat off the trailer measure the distance from one guide to the other this will tell you if it is legal or not. It won't be that much if it is. The widest part of the boat is the deck not the outside of the toons.

That extra 6" must really add to the cost of a boat. Standard sized plywood is 8' or 10' and aluminum extrusions are usually 20' or 24'.
Either this is made from custom materials or there is a lot of waste.

The widest part of the boat is the deck not the outside of the toons.
The PVC pipes slip over the square tubing bolted to the trailer rails... I never tow with the pipes in place. With the pipes removed, the tips of the guides are nearly flush with the rub rails.

That's what I wanted to do but found that for whatever reason, one of the pvc pipes is so snug on the bracket that it's almost iimpossible to remove.. and it looks so goofy with only 1 pipe sticking up, I just leave them both on. My son has the same trailer guides on his boat and both of his slide on and off with ease.... Wish mine did.. i would certainly tow the boat without them being on if I could.
