WOT speed
Went out on The late today and took some GPS readings,
WOT with a head wind,
3 Adults,
35 gals of fuel,
18 ft sun tracker party barge,
60 HP 4 stroke BF,
14x11 factory aluminum prop,
5400 RPMS
=................21 MPH
Does this sound like decent performance?????
Does anyone run Hydrofoil fins on their motor, and does it have any benefit????
Thanks

Re: WOT speed
We had a 22ft Sweetwater with a 60hp 4 stroke Yamaha and got 21 mph by gps. It had a 14x11 prop on it.Rocky1965 wrote:Went out on The late today and took some GPS readings,

I would think that the 18ft should do better than that.
Go on the net and type in ...pontoon boat tests... and you may find your boat, or just type in your boat along wiith tests and see what you get.

Re: WOT speed
I've got the same boat, 2012 18' Party Barge, but I have a 75hp motor. Came with a 13.5 x 13 prop. At WOT I got 24mph (GPS), but would over speed. Propped up to a 15 stainless, dog prop, caveatted at 4 grand. Put on a 17 pitch aluminum, got 21mph at 4300 rpm... too much pitch. Next week we are going back to the lake with a brand shiny new aluminum 13.5 X 15. By all calculations this SHOULD get me the 24mph at just under max RPM.
More to come....
Oh, we love our barge. Seat 9 comfortably with enough room to dance. Enough storage for all the grand kid's stuff. We do miss the speed of the blown, injected boat that went away for the barge, but if we want to go fast we still have the Seadoos.

Re: WOT speed
Rocky, that sounds about right.... my boat is a 20 footer with a 75 on the back end.... last year I checked it with a gps, and top end with 2 people on board and with the lake being smooth as glass, we got right at 24 mph......Rocky1965 wrote:Went out on The late today and took some GPS readings,

Re: WOT speed
For comparison I have a 50 BF with a 11P prop on a 20 Foot Pontoon. Top out at 5200 RPM and 19 MPH with 400 LBS of passengers and almost full tank. Sounds like you are doing just about right.

I think you need a bigger tank.
Speed sounds right.

Re: WOT speed
I thought that was a rather large tank too, then I took out a second mortgage and filled it up, and my wife hit the roof. But on the up side I can run forever on that full tank.LocoCoco wrote:Rocky1965 wrote:...35 gals of fuel...

Re: WOT speed
Thanks for the reply's, I think I'll try again on a calmer day (stiff wind and rain showers all around me) and see what happens. I would like to change out to a SS prop, but this one will have to do for now.

Re: WOT speed
The only problem with a big tank and something that is easy on fuel is the gas goes bad. As long as you burn it out fairly fast you will be OK.
