I want a front bimini too

#1 Post by Shopguy » Mon Jul 23, 2012 10:36 am

I found the NorthStar site and like the prices. Only problem is that their supplier can't get the rodeo red material. So it's either a shade lighter or darker...AAAAAAA makes me wanna pull my freakin hair out!!. It's always something, some kind of catch.
NorthStar has a smokin deal on bimini's and I can't find the material.
Anybody know where I can get one with aluminum attachments too, with a Rodeo Red vinyl top?
Guess if I have too I'd get a shade darker that way when it fades it might match a little better. But how goofy is that gonna be?
So, it's either sh*t can my original (still in good shape) one. or run around mismatched.

Why not go for a complimentary color...like white or something?

You need to buy two that match it wouldn't look right otherwise, tell you what, I'll do you a favor and take the old one off your hands, with the price of new ones I think I could live with mismatched tops. :biggrin2

I was in the same boat....I have a new Harris and quickly realized I needed a second bimini. My situation was with a new boat so I felt I really had to go with a factory bimini. My model didn't offer doubles so I took a risk and bought another factory original bimini. It was very close but we got it to fit and it looks great....and matches perfectly. Have you considered pricing from the factory?

By the way we abolutely love the second bimini in 100 degree heat in Missouri!

I know you can get awnings dyed and carpet dyed....you could get the whole thing done then get it sprayed. Or you could spray it yourself. www.simplyspray.com
You might need some uvb protection afterward...

We love ours too ! I was fortunate enough to get mine with the boat. I bought it slightly used, and when I went to pick it up, the previous owner started digging stuff out of the garage that went with it....bumpers,some rope...crap like that. Then he says..."oh yeah ! I have another top that zips to the rear one with it somewhere". He had never used it. Needless to say, it was a pleasant surprise. We use it pretty often !

I was going with Northstar too on a front bimini and decided that I didn't want to have 2 different colors and have to get a zipper added to my rear one. Since their price was so good, I sold my old one for $250 and paid $500 for the new rear one. So for only $250 more I had a matching double bimini with zippers to connect them and got rid of the 8 year old one. Northstar was great to work with- they even gave me a super price on extra Sunbrella so I could have the side enclosure made locally, and they put in the zippers around the top perimeter for abot $15 each.

We bought a Bimini Buddy. Works great.
We use it a few times a year. If we have a group, we always have some wanting sun and some wanting shade, so it usually isn't needed. But when it is, It's worth it's weight in.... Shade.

PS. They will send you a fabric sample kit, if you request it.

I wanted a second Bimini also. Was shopping at Sam's Club and found 8' beach umbrellas for 15 bucks. Bought 2 and saved myself $500.

Mine came with a polyester, black 8' bimini in the rear of the boat.... My stealership checked with the boat manufacturer... They won't/can't sell me another piece that connects to the existing - I'd have to buy a new double bimini, for over $1000.00. Well, my boat is a year old, I don't want to toss what I have, or try to fool with selling it....

Soooo....

From pontoonstuff.com I bought this sunbrella 10' x 8.5' top for $648.00.... And, yes, I got it in black.

Because of the port side door, I moved the 8' top to the front of the boat, and put the 10' on on the back. It came with metal mounting brackets, 1 1/4" square tubing - just like the one that came on the boat.

That's 18' of bimini coverage. Plenty shade for a 22' boat that only has 20' of seating.

These are two different tops, without a zipper section for connection. I didn't want a big gap between the two tops. I mounted them so that they overlapped by about 2" or so; the new rear one goes over the back of the front one. (does that make sense?)

I bought a new anchor light for the 10' one, and wired it to the original 3-way switch. I use the old one on the 8' top as a interior dome light, to light the inside of the boat at night - on it's own switch.

I don't regret for one minute the purchase or how they're mounted on my boat. All I get is compliments. And, from my passengers, I get thanks for the shade!
