loose door hinge pin cure?

#1 Post by Mr Geets » Wed Aug 01, 2012 6:58 am

:hairpull some time ago I posted about an annoying vibration at low speeds. I temporarily solved it with chunks of weatherstrip between the door on the hinge side and the fence upright that the door attached to. It was pretty Mickey Mouse but it worked for a while until the foam flattened out. The dealer needs the boat to see what he could do to the hinge sloppiness that I described??????????? Since this is a 200 mile round trip, I'd really rather make it for something worthwhile if the need arises.

Anyone else encounter this? Any ideas? I even thought of drilling out the hinges and installing something of better quality but I really would like to modify what I have.

I just stick one of my flip-flops in there. Works great.

You can get some nice stainless hinges as long as these are not "lift out" doors. I converted my side doors to regular SS hinges years ago and I have a bungee material saddle tied across the hinge gap to make the doors self closing (no latch). Originally I had replaced the welded on hinges with aluminum screen door hinges but salt water killed them pretty quickly.

Mr Geets, Do you have the "Lift to Open" hinges? Mine was rattling and I stopped it by using a couple of kitchen cabinet door cushions on the door side. And one on the bottom. So far, so good.... Would the dealer just send a pair of hinges to you to replace yourself? Rattles...................I hate them, too!

Man, I am just amazed at how such a deficiency can't be solved by the factory before the purchaser lays out the coin. Yes it is the lift up type.

I drilled thru and used bolts and nuts. The pins kept falling out, so I used bent nails and tapped them in. No problems, then a squeek started. I tried foam, ect, then finally squirted WD40 on the hinges. No more fricken squeek!!!
