Re: Do anchors sink?
Call me crazy but I have a high dollar box anchor and hooked both an anchor buddy and rope! I figured both would have to fail at the same time for me to lose the anchor!

Re: Do anchors sink?
Yes, found it!!! Well, someone else did.
I grabbed my mask and made about 30 dives to 9-10 feet. It was pretty silty and found I could only go down to the bottom for about 10 seconds tops; move like 5-7 at 10 feet. I went to the sheriff that was right there floating and asked if he had some imaging device. He said no, but those guys sitting at the table working the dock and fuel might help. I asked at the table and one guy says he can stay down about 30 seconds and would help. I picked him up and headed to the lost anchor pit about 100 yards away. He made about 10 dives and swam to the surface carry my anchor!!! I only had $15 on me so I gave it to him and drove off with my $110 box anchor on hand. Made my day. Now to find a locking clip to keep it secure on the line.

It is hard to beat a regular shackle. There is a hole in the pin to safety wire it if you are really nervous.

My experience is that by the time a galvanized shackle is shot, you need a new anchor too.

I'm old school, but willing to learn new ways. One rigging tip I recently picked up is to use electrical zip ties on all tag ends. So I've gone back and double zipped all my lines. On nylon rope, they really digs in and bite well
