So, I had lost my anchor in about 10 feet of water. I ended up finding, but lost a possible excuse to buy a side imaging fish finder. You know, a $700 finder to find a$100 anchor.
Here is the Humminbird 798 with side imaging:

Here is the Lowrance:
I wonder if either of these would have helped find it. Anyone with experience with either of these?

Don't know the model but a buddy uses a Hummingbird on his Bass Boat. He has found a few drowning victims using a side scan. I would say Hummingbird because Lowrance has pretty crappy service after the sale.

+1 on the service I hear, I haven't had to use them but that is what I have heard.
I have a Lowrance HDS 8 and I do love it but from what I know now if I were buying new I would go with the Hummingbird because of what I hear about service from Hummingbird and the bigger thing is that you only have one transducer with the HBird where as I have two.
I often wonder if Jimmy really did crack corn, and why should I care?

I hate the bad CS because in past I would take broken unit to Tulsa and leave with a new one or turnaround repair in 2 days.

I'm thinking about moving my transponder and mounting it to a drop down bracket off the front just ahead the toons about a foot, that you can fold up out of the way, then, thought it you could adjust the tilt the transponder to face to the side you want to see.
Figured it would be better for fishing, to know when you on top of the fish not when you passed over them and adjust to the side you could see what in that spot you can't get into or next to the bank.

Humminbird. I have had all the side / down imaging models and I love them. The bigger screens make a difference on the 998 1198. I could not see the screen very well on my 798. Plus I get them at 40% off list so that helps .

I'll take one at 40 off.

I have an 898, and I think you would have found it with it.
I dont have mine dialed in all the way right, but I can see the potential,
I just dont get as much as I want,

Looks like my wedding ring on the left there. Glad you found it on the bottom.
