Bumper boats

#1 Post by Bduece » Tue Aug 14, 2012 2:54 pm

Hi All,
Apprently my boat is so attractive, that other boaters get so fixated on it, it has been hit in the rear 3 seperate times. The left pontoon rear cap is dented, the ladder mount is bent and the right toon end cap is dented. I have some concerns! How thick is the aluminum on the toons? What if anything can I do to protect it while it is docked? Can the dents be pulled/fixed?

Thank You
Bill

You'd have to call your manufacturer (or get lucky here) to get the real number. I called South Bay and mine uses .090 aluminum for the tubes and .120 for the transom.

We talked about dents on here a while back and it is probably going to be difficult to impossible to remove them. As far as protecting your rear.. maybe start hanging some extra large bumpers out there? And maybe a sign that says "No :drink4, and driving."?

Maybe you will have to invent the worlds first usable 'boat bumper', like a car bumper?

I'm thinking about the bumper. It is frustrating to see something you've worked so hard for getting banged up.

Get a couple of those big anchor balls and tie them off the stern lift rings. Make a spreader from a PVC pipe to keep them centered behind the toons. Hook them on with a couple snaps and throw the whole thing up on the dock when you are out.

I would rig up some kind of spray paint launchers, so when they hit you they would get blasted with some bright orange paint. Wouldnt keep them from hitting you but you would know who did it :box

I'm not saying let's go kill all the stupid people.. I'm just saying let's remove all the warning labels and let the problem work itself out.

Have you contacted your insurance company to see if its covered under your policy? They may pay for a pair of new pontoons, minus whatever your deductible is. Just called my agent for the hell of it to see if I would be covered, and it is. My insurance company would pay for all 3 pontoons, supplied by the manufacturer and installed locally or by the manufacturer, if willing to install them, including transportation of the boat to and from, if damaged in a nautical collision, including a hit and run. My out of pocket is my $500.00 deductible. Report must be written by either the Police, Iowa DNR or Iowa/Illinois Water Patrol, if it happened here at home or at the Lake of the Ozarks, there it would be Mo State Police, since they regulate LotO. if they guy hitting you is there, and at fault. Then His company would pay for the repairs, since it is covered under my policy and the deductible would be the owner of the boat at faults expense. If he refused to pay, then my insurance company sues his insurance company for the deductible.

If covered, I'ld let them hit ya a few more times then turn it in, maybe put a hidden Game Camera on the dock to get pictures of the SOB's hittin ya!

I was thinking about the insurance company, I have Foremost. I have to say its going to sound fishy. A few months ago my truck was hit on the right rear. I noticed it one day when I tried to lower the tail gate. I called the insurance company and told them I wasn't sure where or when it happened. I thought they sounded suspicious then. I can only imagine what they are going to say when I call about a hit and run on my boat.
