We paid $39 for the tube. And we got one of those Power Balls (comes with 4-person tow rope) -- this really helps keep the tow rope out of the water and allows for better slinging of the rider (we took out some of the rope sections to shorten it by about 15' -- that seemed to really help slinging the rider). But we don't have a ski/tow bar, so we just connect between the lifting eyes on the ends of the toons.

File comment: Here is the harness we use -- keeps the rope up out of the prop. The harness has a pulley so it allows the tube to travel outside of the wake easier.

I don't understand how that harness works ??? Thanks
The harness connects to the two lifting eyes on the ends of the toons. The pulley has a floater on it to keep the harness up out of the prop. There is another version that doesn't have the pulley -- the tow rope is connected to a fixed point on the harness. This type makes it a little harder to sling the tube rider outside the wake. The pulley allows the tow rope to move from side to side at the back of the boat -- allowing the tube rider to sling further outside the wake.

Does that help?

Tubers can double the speed of the boat in a tight turn. If a rope breaks under such loads, the tube is obviously out of control.

I've know a couple of people that broadsided fixed docks after rope breaks. One of them never fully recovered.

Whatever you do, look for a 4000 pounds test rating, or more. A ski rope is insufficient for this use.

Do you need the ball in the middle if you have a ski tow bar (this should keep rope up out of water) or is that only for hooking near the motor in the back? Thanks.

Ok, I got the tube and the good rope but the good rope has a ski type handle, it is a tubing rope, not a ski rope but how does this connect to the ski tow bar with that handle attached, can someone post a pic. if you have one. Thanks.

i've never seen a tubing rope with a handle. usually they are symmetrical on both ends. there will be a braided in loop or eye at each end. typically on the newer tubes, there will be a quick connect plastic triangle looking thing to attach one eye and the other eye will attach to your tow bar.

as far as tubes go. we've been through several over the years. for us by far the most versatile are the round disk tubes. i usually just wait till i find a close out sale and pick one up. i personally prefer my kids to ski or wakeboard for the exercise and skill but we'll still pull the tube from time to time. i figure a disk shape at least requires upper body strength to hold on in the turns.
