Been thinking about getting one for flats fishing, but they're expensive. Considering trying to make a redneck version.

Wow. I wonder if that would work on my 4,000 pound boat? I'm skeptical.

It would work on your pontoon no doubt, I've seen them lift the backs of boats up almost out of the water!

Depends on your lake bottom. People use them here all the time, but it's very soft sand so it can penetrate easilly.

The original idea came from just shoving your push pole in the sand. That is why they have a point on one end. You just pass it through a bight on a cleat.

I have a 10' stick it anchor pin that holds my 24' great, it's held my toon with the double bimini up loaded down with gear and people in a stiff wind and never let go. I still want the PP on the rear so I can just puts a button and stop fish the area I want then hit another button raise it up and be on my way

Good to hear the stick it works for you. I've been looking at that option too. I like it because it can douple as a push pole. There is a good skinny water redfish area I want to try out, but they are too spooky to use an outboard around.

I've been wondering what those silly things on the back of all the Bass Boats on our lake were

Power Poles! Now I know. Never had a chance to quiz any of the guys out here.

Aargh. I built one using an RV power tongue jack about 7 years ago. I think I had it running BEFORE they hit the market. Sometimes I just miss the bus when it comes to good ideas and making money.
It uses two shedule 80 pvc poles nestled tightly inside each other. And doubles as my flag pole. It has been in service for years and works great.
I do not, however, use my power drive any more. I found it put unnatural force on the stern and made the boat feel like it is on a teeter totter (mounted center between port and stbd). Now I just pull a quick pin and let the pole drop. Takes seconds and the sharpened tip just naturally works its way into sand or mud and works like pole for a floating dock. The boat just naturally floats up and down with the waves, with the pole mount acting like a 'dock collar'. When it is time to go, I just hoist it straight up and pop the quick pin back in. I love it.
