Got To See the New Boat Today

#1 Post by RJF » Sun Aug 26, 2012 1:23 pm

Ordered a 22 DF Aqua Patio five weeks ago. I begged the salesman to get me in the water before Labor Day, and it looks like we'll make it. Only problem is we'll get it about the time we normally store it for the Winter. Hope to find some nice weather and time to fish this Fall.

Long time boater. Was on the old forum many times. Sold our 25' Premier in early July. Wanted more of a fishing boat. This should do nicely. Retired in March, and now live on Houghton Lake in the great State of Michigan.

Congrats on the new boat ,I will be just north of you a few miles for labor day weekend to hang out on indian river. It's nice to hear from another tooner from michigan. Our season is shorter but we have awsome lakes all over the state !!! There are plenty of nice days left in the season no reason to put the boat away to soon ! Good luck with the new boat!

Gramps: I didn't know your were an ex-Michiganer.

I almost got transferred to Dearborn a few times, but Ford Motor Company sold my division @ 24 years on the job. That's when they transferred me to Tucker, GA--where we were stationed for 11 years.

Georgia was nice, and housing is very cheap. We moved to Alabama to keep up our family lake house, which is on a lake that always has a full water pool. (Sorry about beautiful Lake Lanier.)

I never got to see any of those beautiful Michigan lakes on my many visits to Detroit. As close as I got was The River in front of the Rouge Complex.

Just curious what lake are you on? From your posts I've read, it sounds very nice.

We're on Wilson Lake, which is a short 16 mile lake between Pickwick and Wheeler Lakes. We're not land locked, and the 650 mile Tennessee River is known to be the best inland cruising river in the U.S.

The towns of Florence, Sheffield, Tuscumbia and Muscle Shoals butt up against each other with Wilson Dam in the middle. Even though we've got 140,000 residents, this area is pretty much a secret. We have all of the amenities of any other like size city--malls, restaurants, etc.--2 hrs. from Nashville, B'ham and Memphis.

Wilson Lake seldom varies from 3' of full pool, and most of the lake is 45' to 100' in depth--1 to 1 1/2 mile wide river channel. TVA allows fixed boathouses on steel pilings, and most are now concrete decked.

We received two incredible Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail courses 5 years ago, and their Mariott 4 star hotel has a 300' tall revolving restaurant. Another fabulous Robert Trent Jones Golf Course is at the Turtle Point Yacht Club across the lake.

There are houses are as large as 28,000 square feet on 1/2 mile of lake frontage, and yachts as large as 115' on the lake. For the price of a shack in Toronto, you can be in 5500 sq. ft. house 20' from the water with a sunset view. That's just average sq. ft. for the houses built the last 10 years.

We are truly blessed to be able to boat and live at such a special place. Please just tell anyone, as we've got enough Yankees down here already.

Thanks to Liquid Asset for bringing back memories of the greatest boating in the World. Indian River, MI - spent 8 years with a boat at Howe Interlakes Marina. It was our weekend cottage. The river, South shore of Burt Lake, fishing, Movies in downtown Cheboygan, trips to Canada's North Channel, and the whole Mackinac Island thing. We miss it.
