I've used one for years without any problem. There is however a way to cause problems. You MUST make absolutely sure that the boat is TIGHT against the front stop of the trailer before installing the ts. I also trim down gently in order to put only modest weight on the ts. I read about a guy that trimmed down heavy, then slammed on his brakes at a stop sign. The boat shifted forward and cracked his transom.

This is what I use, pretty universal, roller or mount for trailer.

Any chance of pics? Still a little confused how to mount. Also do you use a third bunk for your center tube as well as a transom saver???

Simple is usually better. Mine came from the factory, installed, but I have used them on all of my previous boats. 99% of all the bass boats use them usually because they need the clearance when towing. Stop and think about it a minute, even if the motor is mounted to aluminum the aluminum is still bolted to plywood deck some where along the installation process. anything you can do to take some of the pressure off the transom especially when towing has got to help. letting the trailer absorb some of the road shock sure can't hurt anything. Like I said it's just my .02 worth but I have towed through most of the western states and I wouldn't tow without one. Good Luck with your son's problem, keep us informed WAYNE

My Bassmaster Elite professional fishermen friends use transom savers at all times. Their engines are trimmed up somewhat, and bouncing around puts a lot of pressure on the transoms--especially when equipped with hydraulic jack plates, etc.

Talking about tying transoms down to the trailer. I usually don't tie mine down when just going from home to the ramp. But I would diagonally tie my transom if I was going out of town. Diagonal tie downs allows you not to tie the transom so tight, and it prevents the boat moving from side to side if a large bump was negotiated.

ok, hate to keep bothering you guys with this ts stuff, but is there a certain length TS I should get for a pontoon boat? When I've looked on them on line they come in various / adjustable lengths... not sure which I need.... also, I'm assuming there's a bracket that has to be mounted to the cross member of the trailer correct? LIke I said any recommendations / links / is certainly appreciated.

Editing this post after I came across a youtube video for a different kind of ts....After watching the video my first impression was " pretty cool"... but then It dawned on me, it doesn't really distribute any weight of the motor to the trailer, so all the weight is still on the transom, and isn't the purpose of the TS to take some of the weight off the Transon? in addition to the questions above... what do you guys think?

If not mistaken that is designed to take all the undo pressure of trailering off of the hydrolics while trailering with your motor in the up position. They have used something like that for yrs. on inboard outboard motors.

Roland,
The TS just keeps the motor from bouncing around and putting torque force on the transom when trailering with the motor tilted up. I keep my motor down when I trailer so the torque force is not there and do not use the TS.

Since my transom is made from Wood! I can see it flex from when the motor is down and when I put in ton the TS. Trust me it makes a difference. I will need to replace my Transom probably next spring. It flexes a good 1/2 inch if not a little more... I will always use it just because my eyes don't lie. However if your Transom is made from steel or Aluminum you guys call your own. :donno

Not to change the subject, but ROLAND is your cavitation plate much lower than your motor pod? Your motor looks a little low to me.

I'm not saying let's go kill all the stupid people.. I'm just saying let's remove all the warning labels and let the problem work itself out.

Steve, I don't think so.... I know in the second pic the motor really looks like it sits too low, but that's just the angle of the pic... it's not nearly that low.
