What the heck did my wife see?

#1 Post by wiggydotcom » Sun Aug 26, 2012 9:38 pm

Wasn't sure what forum to put this question in, but since my wife and I were out on our pontoon boat on Beaver Dam Lake in Wisconsin, I guess I'll throw it out here.

We came upon a waverunner that was manned but sitting in the water. While we were about 200 yds away, there appeared to be a second person...about 12 feet up off the water...kinda flying around.

When we got closer we observed the person was indeed hovering---connected by a flexible line, probably about a foot in diam. There were water jets(directed downward) coming out by his feet and hands. I don't remember if he was wearing a wetsuit or not.

I'm guessing somehow the waverunner was supplying the propulsion for the friend to actually be lifted the 12 feet in the air..It was hard for him to keep balanced and he was spinning a bit..but it was the weirdest thing we've seen on the lake to date. It was kinda humerous cuz he looked like some kind of superhero.
And no I hadn't been drinking..
Anybody have any info on what type of apparatus we witnessed?
Thanks,

Thanks, GregF...you're correct. Since I'm home and have access to my puter, I've found it's either a Jetlev-flyer or a Zapata Flyboard. The thing does use the jetski for propulsion. The tube length allows one to attain a height of 9 meters.

Very cool. I guess it's for the guy who wants the latest in toys. :drool

Boss was on line to buy a few of them to rent to tourists, it had remote control so you could control it, for training, most times they control the throttle and let you steer the jets, then when you get use to it they give you full control of water-jet belt.

But they wouldn't guarantee him an area to run them without a bunch more moving in a killing the business, so he backed out of the deal

I've seen a few down here. I'm still waiting for someone to do a nosedive into a sandbar. Looks like fun though. They rent for around $150 for either 30, or 60 min (can't remember).

150 for 30 minutes sounds about right, and there all kinds of things you can do to screw up with the water pump trailing in the water behind you
