Stick it Anchor
Has anyone tried using a stick it anchor, or similar product, on your pontoons? I'm looking for something I can use while fishing shallow water besides my normal anchor. It makes too big of a splash, and I'm sure it spooks the fish. It dosen't hold well in the grass either.
This is what it looks like. Retails for around $85. Same idea as a power pole, but much more affordable.

For that kind of money I would get a real push pole and have two tools.

Re: Stick it Anchor
A push pole, not power pole (2 different things) is a lot thicker. I'm not sure if it will penetrate the sand as well.

Re: Stick it Anchor
I never heard of this idea til I joined here. A couple weeks ago I found a $10 all-aluminum 12-foot 2-section collapsible paint roller extension pole at a hardware store. I'm going to give that a try doing double-duty as a boat hook & anchor pole, with interchangeable ends that I will make myself.

Re: Stick it Anchor
I made a cajun anchor that works great. I sharpened one end of an old stainless shaft, and welded an eye to attach the rope on the other. You can throw it, and it sticks very well. When I go to the cove to hang out, I get the boat in a great spot, and have someone shove it through the center eye on the toon to hold us in place while I set the regular anchor.

Re: Stick it Anchor
The original idea came from flats fishermen who pole around, turn the pole over and stick it to hold their spot. That is why a pole has a pointed end.
PVC might work but it is pretty flexible until you get up around 1 1/4 1 1/2.
I have a piece of 2" stuck in the sand I use to hold my boat in the deep spot behind the lift but it is solidly tied on the other end to the dock. I would not leave it unattended, just tied to the PVC. I wouldn't really trust any "stick" anchor unattended tho. A regular anchor has a chance to bite again if it drags but when the stick pulls out, it is gone.

I wouldn't leave it unattended. I just want something to use while I am fishing from the boat.

Re: Stick it Anchor
you must be able to scrounge up an old 3/4 shaft down there. I've actually used mine in about 15 feet of water and it still holds well enough. Good luck.
Re: Stick it Anchor
I fish with a guy that uses two 10 ft pipes from the plumbing or electical section at home depot-he just sticks them in the mud and ties up to them-just has them tied on the side of toon-prob gonna do the same set up when fishing shallow this spring.
I often wonder if Jimmy really did crack corn, and why should I care?

Re: Stick it Anchor
Thanks Craig I was just about to post my pics! I bought the 10' it was about $150 bucks but it does what it's suppost to do and very well. I've had my boat loaded down with gear and I think it was 6-9 people on board, both biminis up and a pretty good wind blowing and it held me in place no problem. If I did it again I'd get the 8' to save some coin but I plan on a powerpole for the stern (someday
) and I'll use the anchor pin up front if the wind is making the boat pivot. I also bought the brake mounting system but I still haven't mounted it.

Re: Stick it Anchor
Just looks at your pice (nice build by the way) and I think I'll probably go with the 8' also. It's only $85 for the kit which includes storage brackets and two pieces of rope. If it really works it's worth the money to me.

Re: Stick it Anchor
I couldn't believe the price jump for 2 extra feet but the wife said just get the big un so I did
. I can honestly give you my word that it works as long as you are in the correct depth of water. Mine came with the kit also, 3 storage clips with screws Velcro safety straps and the two ropes 3' and 5'.....I love mine
