Wrapping up the 2012 Season

Just finished a week at Lake Dillon (elevation approximately 9,000 feet above sea level).

As you can see from the pic, the season is just about over for me.
That's the 10 Mile Range, looking toward Breckenridge from lake Dillon.

Maiden Season Recap:

About 155 hours on the water.
Over 505 miles traveled.

Next year, we'll be shooting for higher numbers!

Wow, that's a good boating season. Nice numbers! I don't like the white stuff on those mountains, though --- brrrrrr! Is it normal to already see snow up there?

White caps above 11,000ft, sure. And it can happen during non-winter times of the year too if the conditions are just right..

The one time I drove up Pikes Peak, it happened to be in August, it was snowing at the top.

How does one figure out how many miles they travelled? My boats odometer is missing!

Quite normal! Looks like it snowed down to about 9,500 feet. That was last Wednesday, I think. We still boated the rest of the week. The water temps were right around 58 degrees all week, but the air temps were in the 60's during the day. This little warning, is just a nudge to get ready, and we will heed it! We've had snow at our house (9,000 feet elevation) as early as September 6th. It's a real pain to shovel snow off the boat, if it's not covered, so it's time to put her to bed for the winter. Time for my first winterization. I'm sure within a few years it will just take me an hour or so, like winterizing my camper. Once you get the trick of it, it's no big deal.

My GPS keeps track of that! We were determined to get over 500 on Thursday, even though the wind was coming up, nice and nipply!

Good luck, Bob. Sounds like it's time to put her away as you plan to do. I have to admit, it is really beautiful there. I'm a thin-blooded AZ guy now after living here for 15 years, but you do live in a beautiful area. Oddly enough, despite our huge differences in weather, CO is on a VERY short list of states I would move to if I had to leave AZ for some reason. So far they are not throwing me out of here, though, so I'll probably sit tight.

I am certain that some day we will end up with a place in the mountains, after living in Ft Collins for 4 years, my wife has a hankering to retire there (the Mountains, not Ft Collins). But it could be anywhere between Kalispell, Bozeman, Red Lodge, (skipping most of Wyoming though...) then picking up alternatives in Steamboat Springs, and all points high in elevation and South down to Durango/Silverton (heck, even Pagosa Springs)...

Next year I am certain that we will be down the Rocky Mountain Way (Ft Collins to Denver and up to Estes Park and Steamboat) because we haven't been out that way for a while and the kids have never seen the mountains.

Looks like some good boating..

We went soaring (zip line) between Durango and Silverton when we were in Colorado. I was disappointed with Wolf Creek Pass tho. Compared to a lot of mountain roads we have been on, that was pretty tame. CW should be ashamed

It's a very complex formula that uses the calculus, imaginery numbers, and the number of beers consumed over the season.

Me too. I really wanted a picture of my rentacar as close to a feed store in downtown Pagosa Springs as I could get it with the intent of playing with the camera angle to make it look like I "bashed into it".


BTW one of the spookier roads is the "Million Dollar Highway" coming down to Durango. They could have spent 2 million and put in a few guard rails.

We were there is a nasty rain storm with a lot of truck traffic.

That would be the five-five-oh from Durango to Silverton...Red Mountin Pass if I recall correctly.
Close to where I live is "Virginia Canyon" - the "Oh My God" road - from Idaho Springs to Central City. It's got all that, plus it's not paved.
