It's a 2013-sold the 2011 in May. That GPS reading was in about a one foot chop and 91 degree hot sweaty day. Only turning 6000rpm-

look what came in the mail Saturday. carb should be here this week. As much as I am really looking to hit 80 mph, I did this so the boat would run better at idle. When we built the engine we went so much over budget, that we basically found a intake off of a 540ci big block some drag racer had laying around. It is so ported, that fuel would build up, and flood the engine at idle. The carb was from a stockcar shop, from a limited latemodel, It had been scavenged, and we just found parts and pieces to put it together.the carb and intake should make an additional 30 to 40 hp. Here's a sneak peak at my latest fasttoon toy:

This is a TorqueShift prop. It is very old school...so much so that they aren't made any more (the foundry burned down). It operates somewhat like a sled clutch. The centrifugal torque forces the blades to shift pitch, automatically!! This particular model can shift from a 16 pitch to as high as 26. It is fully adjustable via a combination of springs, cams, and limit screws.
Back in the day, they got a bad rep because newbs just wanted them to work and didn't take the time to 'tune' them. They take a little tlc, but when adjusted properly are simply amazing.
About 8 or 10 years ago, I got a ride in a speedboat with one. It JUMPED out of the water, and I mean JUMPED. He then proceeded to do about 80 with it. I have seen video of a boat pulling out I think 8 skiers and then dropping them off and without changing props, just go like hell.
I have been looking for a decent one for a few years. Plus, there are several models so I had to be careful. There is a guy that still supplies wear parts, he is like the TorqueShift Yoda.
Of course, since I will be running a heavy boat, I won't be able to give you a run for your money. I'm thinking it'll be a pretty mean houseboat tho.

WOW, that looks like a really cool prop. I am not much of a prop guy, but I do understand the theory of that. I have a prop guy (pro-pellers) and he takes care of my needs. He has stated that a 3 blade prop has no ware near enough traction for me. although I would like to test like 3 blade 25 pitch prop. but as bad as I'd like to see 80 mph, that's about it. I think at a point it will just keep damaging the hull.

Ken Gouty is a friend of mine, (Playcraft tri toon, twin supercharged 1350 hp 110 mph) he has so much more bracing and aerodynamics inside and underneath his toons. the Southbay with the world record 112 mph, also has similar bracing and under hull, aerodynamics.

So basically im going about as fast as I want to.JT

My old Yamaha 2 stroke 115 hp outboard is 26 years old and still runs great.

Outboards on pontoons are just easier to deal with--and better values in the long run.

My 90 hp Yammy triple is now 25 years old and it runs PERFECT. Fires up within two cranks after sitting for 8 months at a time. Always fires up first crank after that, hot or cold. I love it - and with modern two stroke oil it barely smokes.

I often run it all day long practically non-stop traversing Lake Powell in 100F heat - and with 41 gallons of fuel my barge of a toon will go 80 miles and 20 mph at WOT before running into reserves.

I used to have one of these from Land and Sea on my 20' Checkmate V8 I/O and it was kind of like having a 2-speed tranny. I recall it worked pretty well, but it was still a compromise, and no match on the big end with the 3 blade cleaver prop I also had. But then again, that one couldn't pull a skier worth a darn either. Pretty cool invention for sure and it should be fun to try it out on a heavy toon.

Thanks for verifying my gamble a bit. All my lake buddies up here think I'm nuts. Of course, I have a nice Mirage stainless as main prop, but I am looking forward to sea trials with the Torque thingy.
