Bamaman, we live close to Whiteman Air Force Base, home to a squadron of A-10s. The use the lake to make low passes, sometimes under 500' AGL. They always fly in pairs and one day I was mowing and they came up behind me. I thought there was something wrong with the mower engine because it got so damn loud so damn quick. Just as I let off the safety handle the first A-10 passed directly overhead and scared the crap out of me. I no sooner got over the first one passing when the second one comes over, even lower.
Just about had to go in and change the old underwear!

Sounds like our mosquito control planes. They fly old C-47s right on the deck, spraying malathion. I doubt they get to 500 feet if there are no power lines or other obstructions. You have no problem seeing the pilot's face.

I used to live near Andrews AFB and those jet jockeys made some very low passes over my house during air shows ... until they had a few crashes in neighborhoods.

Hah, my dad was stationed there, when I was born...at Walter Reed.
I was stationed at Nellis (Las Vegas), home of the Thunderchickens. We got an airshow every time they came back to the base.

Free air shows are always the best, especially on your deck, drinking your own beer.

When they first built the new airport (RSW) there wasn't a lot of traffic into Ft Myers and the boys from Eglin would come here in F15s to do approaches.
They would come in at 10,000 feet or more, do a vertical dive at the end of the runway, level out, fly down the runway at 20 feet or so and then point the nose up, light the burners and go straight up until they were out of sight. They would do that a couple times, do a few aerobatic tricks and be gone. You could see that show a couple times a day.
