Be safe folks, pay attention to the news, if in doubt get to higher ground, this Sandy is a first class Bitch! Really glad I took my boat out Friday even though we are inland, the wind could have bounced it around against the dock. :thumbsup

I think it's going to be as bad or worse than Isabel, but without the tidal surge. Landfall here is tonight with the eye going right over our town.... :prayer :prayer :prayer

I drive truck local for New Penn, (like Yellow Frieght) we cover the northeast area and my company closed today and tomorrow because of this storm. In 15+ years with the company, we have NEVER closed do to weather.

They said on the news that the NY area will be hit with record setting tidal surges.

No surge here because the storm went up the coast. Isabel our local surge was 7 ft. above normal high tide. We are getting the opposite now, water being pulled out of the upper bay with a few boats sitting on the bottom.

I'm not saying let's go kill all the stupid people.. I'm just saying let's remove all the warning labels and let the problem work itself out.

When a storm tracks towards the bay from the south, the winds blow water into the bay, causing surges. When a storm tracks up the coast, the winds blow away from the bay, pulling water out.

We've had surges 9 ft higher than high tide AND tides so low that they close down teh canal because it's not deep enough to be safe for tankers and other large ships.

At the moment, we are experiencing a 3-5 ft surge. This is my marina now, with high tide at 11:30 PM tonight expected to go higher:
