USN Jan 1970 to Jan 1974.
Three stints South China Sea on destroyer USS Carpenter DD825.
MM2 (E-5) fresh air snipe.
Twin 5 inch cannons which we used on NVA in 1970. Loud muther-fer's.
Anti submarine rockets. Torpedo's. 50 cal BAR on tripod. (That was fun)
Stationed in Pearl. Back up ship for picking up the Apollo capsules.
Good times even though they were bad times.
Did I mention Pearl. As in Hawaii. Gotta get back there sometime.
If Colonial America met our America today, Colonial America would kick our ass for being pussies.

I was stationed on a large CG cutter in Honolulu with 270 days away each year for 3 years. We ALWAYS went to Alaska and the Bering Sea. My wife left Hawaii with a great tan, while I was pasty white from my "Alaska tan"! Good times = missed my first son's birth, seized a Soviet factory trawler after finding faked logbooks, got chased by a bison, ate some of him a month later!

Which one were you on? I did pretty much the same thing, but only for a little under 2 years. Was on Munro '85-'86. I was 1st class at Barbers Point, then sent across the harbor to the 378' when I made Chief. Took her into FRAM, and then went down to SD to the Point Stuart.

I was the RDC on JARVIS in 1988 and crossdecked to RUSH. JARVIS was the ONLY 378 still running from 1988 till 1990, that why so many days AFHP. We were out 3 months, in for 3 weeks, then back out again... Stayed on at Vessel Traffic Service Seattle for 16 months, promoted to CWO and sent to DALLAS in Governors Island NY. Can you tell I liked driving ships? Hated being away from family. but loved the missions and the teamwork. REALLY liked having 36,000 horsepower at my disposal!

It was even better down in Main Control twisting the pots and bringing those 36,000 HP to life. Although 30 knots isn't real fast for a pontoon boat, it's hauling a$$ on a 378' ship.

Sorry to hijack my own thread, folks, but there's a certain brotherhood for those who ever sailed on a Great White Needle of Death.

U.S. Army 66-68 FT. Hood Texas The military life is not for me but was a great maturing process for an 18 year old kid.I think every able bodied 18 year old should have military training to strengthen the country.Let them serve 2 yrs. and give them job training for the real world, something they don't have coming out of high school.

BoatCop & Playcat: Love the CG and I really enjoy the shows about CG Alaska & Florida. Those guys really put their butts on the line pretty much every time they go out.
Just took a cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale and we had a CG RIB as an escort out of the harbor. The boat driver was fun-loving. He cut donuts for the passengers and got lots of cheers and thumbs-up from those lining the rail. I would imagine those triple 300 Verado's will get that RIB scooting across the water.

Im new to the forum and would like to thank every man and woman, that has served in the armed forces, for their service. If it weren't for you, we may not be free to do the things we do in this great country. Im a musician in a regional rock band and we end EVERY show, no matter what. with a tribute to you. It doesn't matter if we go over our time or we have to cut songs, we ALWAYS break out the American Flag and play the Star Spangled Banner and it goes out to all of you. I always go out of my way to shake the hand of a soldier in uniform when I see one.

THANK YOU!!

Wish the Guard had those when I was still in...They are a NICE setup! And the new large cutters (ships) have stern ramps for launching and recovering 3 large RIBs with great speed as well.
