My comment on cost does not equal value was for those who buy "cheaper" policies only to find out that they don't have the coverage they thought they had.
I had a neighbor who was a real penny pincher, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. After a 24 inch snow fall, his floating dock roof collapsed. Yes, his policy covered out buildings that were connected by electical wiring fed from the residence. But the insurance company didn't consider a floating dock an out building. It did have an exclusion for piers and wharves, but didn't specifically mention docks. He didn't have the coverage that he thought he was paying for. He found out that his boat damage wasn't covered either as the structure that caused the damage wasn't insured. Yes, the boats were insured through the same company and I had never, ever, heard of such an out for any insurance company. Bottom line, he was SOL.
Another case - a buddy of mine has his house burn down. The city wouldn't let him rebuild as the old house had a rock foundation. The insurance company wouldn't pay to replace the foundation as it is normally excluded, nor was any underground plumbing that would have to be replaced for a new foundation. He learned too late about a codes or ordinance rider that would have removed this exclusion.
Soooo, if'n ya go to a lower cost policy, check it against what ya got now to insure that they are covering exactly the same exposures.

I did a full rebuild on mine from the deck up and several of the ones I talked to didn't care and weren't willing to do a agreed value, so I ended up with progressive, and so far no problems. And honestly I have no idea if its reasonably of not, but I got a year at 275.00 on a 20,000 policy on a 1988 boat. Due to my circumstances it includes while towing and storage here in the yard to.

MH... you might want to revisit this with Progressive again.. I use the same company and like you have a set policy payoff / mine is 25,000 but my annual premium was something like $138.00 but there was a small discount if I paid it in full, which I did... bringing the annual premium to $125.00 Maybe the difference in premium is the states we live in. Just thought you would like to know..

What’s more important is the Broker you deal with. He should go over your coverage with you and make sure you have the correct coverage. I have Safeco and am very happy. I have great coverage at a great price; Of course I have a great broker.

Boat US have a deal that I haven't seen in any other coverage. They cover your boat for $700,000 for spill clean up If you have an accident on the water and there's any kind of spill leak your covered. and the same price as State Farm.
